Day 3 - Green Bay and Door County Peninsula

by David "Sumoflam" Kravetz

Aug 6, 2012: Our last full day in Wisconsin.  Spent the night in Green Bay and got up early again to find our way to Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers. Obviously, not the place a former Dallas Cowboy fan would want to visit, but it is such a historical field.  So, we made our way to Lambeau.

We visited the statues and the store.  We weren't able to really tour the field.

My granddaughter Autumn in her new PINK Packers Hat and a football chandelier!!

After Lambeau we began to head towards Door County.  Along the way we saw a building with an interesting pillar...this town is obsessed with football and the Packers.

This large football is at the back entrance of the Resch Center as seen from Lombardi Avenue, just southeast of Lambeau field

After leaving Lambeau, we went down Lombardi Ave and then went through downtown Green Bay all the way to State Highway 54/57 towards Sturgeon Bay.  The Peninsula was one of the places I have always wanted to visit.  So, we made our way to the entrance to Door County in Sturgeon Bay, WI. From there we made our way to Egg Harbor, which was to be the main highlight of the day.  We spent the afternoon here for lunch, some ice cream, etc.

We enjoyed a nice lunch at the Shipwrecked Brew Pub/Inn - the only microbrewery in Door County.  I had the Buffalo Joe:
Tender turkey pot roast slathered “Sloppy Joe” style in a cayenne pepper hot sauce. It was yummiferous!!

We then went to the Chocolate Chicken for some Ice Cream.  It was also home of the fancy chicken statue

After lunch Chelsea and Autumn took a stroll down to the Harbor.  I sat on a bench up on the hill and enjoyed the pleasant weather, the views and the seagulls.

While relaxing on the bench a couple of seagulls came by for a visit.  I got some nice shots!!

After the relaxing time at Egg Harbor, it was time to move further north up the peninsula.  We passed by the Cherry Hut (the area is famed for its cherries).  Some some nice flowers too

Traffic on a Monday in Door County was pretty bad.

Not too many roads to go around it.

We finally made our way to Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek, WI.  We took the scenic drive and saw some beautiful scenes

Obviously, there is water on both sides of the peninsula.  Some great scenery

As with any vacation, the trip must end and the sun will set.  We made the long trek back to Lexington via an overnight stay in Hebron, IN.  It was a great 4 day trip filled with many fantastic voyages and memories!!
